A Dedication to the Legacy of Reese Blackburn

April 15, 1991 – January 29, 2013

How it Began

Generation Prime LLC began in 2011 when Reese started providing services in record scanning and data collection while he was studying Business Management in college.  His outgoing personality landed him an opportunity to create a children's book app with one of the first app designers in CT. His book "What's so Special About Joey Speckles?" provided a message of encouragement through a character named Joey Speckles. The message served as a reminder that anyone, no matter how big, small or different, has the chance to rise above their own challenges.

  • Reese Blackburn created Joey Speckles to help younger generations realize that anyone, no matter how big, small or different, has the chance to rise above their own challenge.

Born in April, 1991 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and later diagnosed with Asperger at an impressionable age, he struggled throughout his life both socially and educationally. However, the challenges he faced didn’t hinder his creative process; he picked up visual arts and used the creation of his own fictional characters to illustrate not only the adversities of being truly different, but also to embrace being one of a kind.

This philosophy allowed Reese to live independently despite his disabilities and prompted him to create Generation Prime and the inspiring tale of “What’s So Special About Joey Speckles?”

The Legacy

Shortly after releasing the eBook, Reese unexpectedly passed away from a heart aneurysm.  In his memory, the Blackburn family created Reese's app in print to gave it away to friends and family.  The response was over-whelming and his story so inspiring that Generation Prime became a foundation in his honor.  The purpose of Generation Prime Education Foundation is to encourage and support creative minds in the pursuit of their dreams.

Supporting the Community

Currently, Generation Prime assists non-profits and community organizations by providing funding for educational and professional development.
